The Other Stuff I Do

A blog for all of the geeky stuff I do when I'm not photographing weddings.

Away to Vegas and Florida

On Saturday, Dave and I are headed off to the WPPI convention in Vegas to spend a few days learning, networking, and hopefully not losing any money. Then on Wednesday night, we’re flying from Vegas to Captiva, FL where we’ll be shooting a beach wedding! I’m soooo excited! I’m also looking forward to spending a few days just lying on the beach with my Kindle. :)

Etsy Find: Kindle Cases

Ever since I got my Kindle, I’ve been paranoid that it’s going to end up destroyed (or lost, like several other electronics I have owned >.<). So I reeeeally need to get a case or sleeve for it. I’m eventually going to try to make one on my own, but in the meantime, here are some really cute ones I found on Etsy.

These are from a mother/daughter team of crafters who call their shop Thitaree.

I also found these cute retro fabric cases at Rogue Theory.

I’m in love with these crocheted cases from Sleevy.

March Obsessions

I’d been meaning to make a post every day for at least the first week of this blog, and I’m missing it by just minutes! And it’s only day 2. Oh well. We’ll be out-of-state for a week and a half starting this weekend anyway. And I can’t see myself posting from the hotel room. But you never know! Keep an eye out anyway. :)

Anyhow, I’m starting a monthly feature for my recent obsessions. And the winners for March are…

1. REED’S GINGER BEER – A few weeks ago, a friend gave a bottle of this to Dave to drink. After taking a sip, he made a funny face and passed it off on to me, and that was it… I was hooked. I cannot get enough of this stuff! I constantly crave it. I’ve been having a total love affair with ginger root lately in my cooking, so it’s no surprise that I love the strong ginger flavor. It’s a bit pricier than other sodas, but worth it. Look for it at a natural foods grocery if you’d like to try it out.

2. GOODREADS.COM – This is kind of like IMDB for books combined with facebook. You can look up pretty much any book ever published, and you can join book clubs, add friends, add books to your “bookshelves,” etc. Ever since I got a Kindle for Christmas, I’ve been obsessed with reading. So this site has been super helpful and also lots of fun, so be sure to check it out! :)

Georgia Aquarium: Part I

Back in January, Dave and I photographed an Atlanta wedding, and since we had an extra day there, the bride recommended that we visit the Georgia Aquarium. I absolutely loved it! It was my first time to an actual aquarium that wasn’t just a part of a zoo. My favorite part was the touch tank, where we were allowed to reach in and pet sting rays and little hammerhead sharks. I was surrounded by a crowd of little kids who were doing it too, and I was just as excited as they were. Dave had already been to something similar, so he just stood back and laughed at me. :)

Here are a few of the pics. There are a bunch more that I loved and will post later.

WELCOME TO MY BLOG!

I’m not really sure what sort of form this blog is going to take, but I thought it would be fun to start. My problem is, I’m in to way too much stuff and I have way too many goals. I just got a sewing machine for my birthday along with some books full of really fun craft ideas. So I’ll definitely be posting plenty of pics of those. I’m also into furniture reupholstery and refinishing right now. I’m currently working on a little sewing bench with some super-cute bright yellow dandelion fabric from Ikea. Can’t wait to post some images of the final product (assuming it comes out all right!).
